The FIFA World Cup 2010 is the nineteenth edition of the FIFA World Cup taking place from June 11th  to July 11th 2010 in South Africa. This is the first final of World Cup competing on African soil. The host country was selected in May 2004.
From August 2007 to November 2009, the national teams from 203 countries  participated in a qualifying stage, in order to designate the 31 teams competing for the final tournament along with South Africa, qualifying automatically as a country organizer.

The Jabulani Adidas is the official ball of the FIFA World Cup  manufactured by Adidas

The Republic of South africa is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. The capital is named Pretoria.

In South Africa they speak English, but at home most people speak Zulu and Afrikaans.

The South African flag is Black, yellow, green, white ,red and blue. The flag was created in 1994.

In South Africa there are big national parks, the biggest is named Kruger National Park. It’s located in the North of the country.

You can go on a safari and see many wild animals : Impalas, African buffalo, Lions, Elephants, Burchell’s zebra and White Rhinoceros.

In our class, we talked about Nelson Mandela’s history, and we learnt lots of things : vocabulary, the history of South Africa and of Nelson Mandela ..

Nelson Madela’s biography :

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18th 1918. His real name is Rolihlahla but he had to change it when he went to school. He grew up in a village called Quru where he had a happy childhood and became  a man. When he was old enough, he went to Johannesburg and discovered Apartheid. ( Apartheid is  segregation).

That’s when he decided to fight against it. Consequently he became a scapegoat (= Tête de turc) and they wanted to send him to prison. During his fightings, he met Winnie and married her. They had two daughters. He went to prison and spent 10, 000 days there before being released thanks to President de Klerk.

The two men received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. And in 1994, Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa.

He had already been separated from Winnie when he met Graça Machel and married her. Both  fight for Children Rights. He will be  92 years old in July and he’s still respected all over the world.

Zindzi, his first child . She is a singer and she fights , like her father, for the equality in South  Africa, between white and black.

Australia is an island but a continent too. The capital city is Canberra!! Australia people speak english

The Australian flag is all blue: it is composed of the british flag because Australia was a british colony!!!

The first people to live in Australia were the Aborigenes!

Touristic attraction are mostly in Sydney like the Opera House   and in Sydney you can go surfing on Bondi Beach!

Next to Cairn you can discover the Great Barrier Reef  and in the Outback you can discover the Aboriginal sacred rock : Ayers Rock=Uluru

The Aboriginals are the first inhabitants of Australia. They have kept their culture, particularly their art.

Indeed Aboriginal paintigs represent nature, hunting, the earth …

The main colours are yellow, orange, red, brown …

In our class, we created a few  colorings, drawing our inspirition from original Aboriginal symbols.

Junk food……..Miam !!!!!

If  we eat too much junk food , it can be a timebomb , but if we eat a little there is no problem.
